Prolly Is Not Probably has been doing the top 10 Fixed Gear Freestyle videos of the year for the past three years. In 2009 we came ever so close to topping the list with our number 2 spot and last year we received an "honorable mention." This year however we've managed to crack the number one spot! The video I produced with Tom La Marche was rated as best video of the year. I couldn't be happier for Tom, his riding is truly on another level. Thanks to everyone that follows Skitch, I know it's been slow and we post news extremely rarely but that's just how life is. We'd rather give you one amazing thing than a bunch of mediocre things. So thanks to all of you, 2011 has been awesome and hopefully we can make it back on top in 2012.

In the past year Tom La Marche has been living off and on here in Toronto, Canada. While here we've become good friends and through the end of summer and beginning of fall we've been shooting some of his riding. Tom is unlike any other on a fixed gear bike, his control is absolutely unrivaled and his desire to continually push himself is something I've never seen before. I'm happy to call Tom a friend and I'm thrilled to let you guys finally see this video that we've both put a ton of hard work into. I hope you enjoy it.

We were looking to test out a new lens and get a clip for his new edit. Needless to say this take did not end well with Finn's head meeting the barricade at a rather high velocity. DANG BRO!

Open publication - Free publishing - More fixed gear

It's been talked about for quite some time now and it's finally here. The first issue of Great White North by Finn Zygowski. I've known Finn for a couple years now and he's always had his own way of looking at the fixed gear world and that's one of the things I really like about him. He's not content with the norm or the trends he's got a unique vision about what it is and where it should be going. His first publication of Great White North embodies all of this, it's a unique perspective on where we ride and how we ride. I'm stoked for Finn to have finally finished this thing up and I hope issue two comes along soon. Great job Finn.

I had an interesting experience this morning while browsing the internet. As a few of you know I've been riding mountain bikes for the past 11 years or so and I still regularly check sites like NSMB (North Shore Mountain Biking.com). Well this morning right at the top of the page was an old Skitch shirt we produced back in 2007. At first I didn't recognize the rider because his face is obscured by his hand but upon further query I discovered that it's my buddy Morgan from Vancouver. He was writing an article about his history of riding hardtail mountain bikes on Vancouver's north shore. It was an interesting read so head over and take a look here.

RIP Christopher Lum

Yesterday we lost our good friend and fellow rider Christopher Lum to a terrible ski accident in Lake Louise. Chris was one of Toronto’s best fixed gear riders and one of the nicest people to be around. He was always energetic and outgoing which rubbed off on everyone around him. For the last couple of years he has been studying at Delhousie University in Halifax but would always return home every chance he got to ride and see his family. Our hearts go out to his family for their loss. Chris we’ll ride with you again soon.

Forgotten Footage

I retired this camera a few months ago in favor of something newer and nicer. I've been meaning to go through and clear out the plethora of clips that never saw the light of day for one reason or another. A lot of them were cut from previous edits, or simply forgotten about, others were clips that were just never turned into anything at all. This is sort of like digital house cleaning and I hope it makes everyone feel like summer is a little bit closer. For me it just reminds me of why we all ride; you can't replace fun times spent with friends on warm summer days. Everything was filmed in Toronto over the past year and a half with the exception of one clip at the Brooklyn Banks. I hope this is a nice break for everyone who is stuck in the snow these day.

I just thought I'd share a couple of new bikes we've got over here at Skitch. First and foremost Swoo is now riding for All-City on the new Dropout. Here's a couple fresh pics of his new ride.

I on the other hand am currently riding a new GOrilla Kilroy that I built up with the help of RaceFace and Velocity, a big thanks to those guys for helping me out.

Also I'd like to ad our good buddy Finn's new ride as well. This is his new Thrasher which is actually Mosher old Trasher, the colour way is looking pretty good if you ask me.

Swoo is a really good friend of mine here in Toronto and he has been absolutely killing it on a bike as of late. I remember when I first met him about a year ago he could barely do any tricks and now he's impressing people left, right and center. Swoo and I worked on putting together this edit that recently landed him on All City Cycles, congrats dude! The full edit took about two weeks to complete and the final banger at the end had me real nervous for his safety, that line is serious business. Wonka

Over the past couple of months it's been pretty quiet here on the blog. I really had to concentrate on school and there just wasn't enough time to keep on top of everything. I'm hopeful that I'll have a few more things to post here in the very near future but with my final year of school looming we'll see how productive the blog really is.

In any case, Wonka and Tom LaMarche made it up to Toronto about a month ago and we ended up riding a bit. I've shot some video footage which still needs to be edited but here are some photos that our good friend Ryan Narita shot while he was visiting from Vancouver. Enjoy.

Two Days In Toronto

On May 16th our two good friends, Tom LaMarche and Torey Thornton came to Toronto for a couple days of riding.
Day one started out how most trips usually do, slow. We all gathered in Trinity Bellwoods Park in West Toronto and grabbed some rays in the warm Toronto sunshine. It had been a few months since I had seen either Tom or Torey so it was good to catch up on what they've been up to. As the crew gathered we made our way over to a pizza joint, then back to the house they were crashing at to grab their bikes.First off I have to say that LaMarche's new Scissor is awesome! I had a blast riding around on it and the tires were insanely huge. I've heard that this is still in a prototype version and more changes are coming but damn it was nice!

I won't bother with a play by play of what went down in terms of tricks, I'll let the video do the talking. What I will say though was that these guys produce clips fast. The day went by as a bit of a blur, so many spots, so many tricks and just good times with friends riding. Our friend Alex Cirka was behind the lens capturing a ton of stills that went down that day.

Day two got started extremely slowly as we all met at Skydome at 5pm. Even with the shorter time frame for riding Torey was going off. I've said it before and I'll say it again but Torey is my favorite rider in the world to watch, he is unbelievably creative on a bicycle and mixes tech and big stuff so well. Torey was hitting all kinds of things and seemed just stoked to be riding in a new city. LaMarche decided to lay low on Monday night after killing it the day before.
The trip was a huge success with some awesome clips being produced. Torey did the biggest stair ride I've ever seen on a fixed gear, Mosher feebled over water and LaMarche just destroyed everything he touched whether it was airs or grinds.A huge thank you to Torey and Tom for coming to town, I hope you guys come back again soon. I know we all had a blast. Also thank you to Alex Cirka for the photos. This photo was just too funny not to post. LaMarche, George, Blayne and I, cracking jokes all day.

Toby, Mosher and I all work or have worked as messengers here in Toronto so we're all real accustomed to riding in the snow. Here's Mosher's new bike check video. The bike is looking good these days and some of the tricks are bangin'. The stair gap was extemely impressive and I'm happy to see that Mosher finally got the 180 down the 6 stair at the art gallery done. We had tried to shoot that for Bootleg 3 but lets just say their were some issues with windows getting in the way.

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last month I have been extremely busy with the film and just life in general and haven't had much time at all to get to the blog. There have been so many things happening that it's really hard to know where to start. There was the RVA trick jam that went down with our whole crew in attendance. There have been more Revival premieres in places like Halifax, Manilla and a few others around the world. Mosher seperated his shoulder as well and will be taking it easy for the next little while.

I guess video news is probably what most people would like to hear so I'll start there. The Revival is on it's way very very very soon. You can expect some finalized news next week and a pre-order page to go up on The Revival website. The packaging is just waiting for one last touch and then we're all done.

There will most likely be some new cloths coming in April sometime as soon as school is wrapped up for me and I can focus on Skitch again.

Torey over at WRAHW just put out a sick tee so head over there and grab that for sure.

Wonka has been working on a clothing line called Grime St for the past little bit and put out an absolutely sick edit which I'm sure most of you have seen by now but if not, here you go. I would also like to point out to everyone that this does not mean that Wonka is leaving Skitch he will be supporting both his brand along with Skitch. Skitch is more of a family than anything so we all support one another with any new ventures we might be undertaking.

Vienna, Austria just hosted one of the final official Revival premieres and the place was packed! I'm always amazed when I see photos like this from around the world and it really makes me think that all the hard work of putting this film together was totally worth it. So thank you to anyone who has been to any premiere around the world, I can't thank you enough. In regards to the movie, we are just putting the finishing touches on the DVD and it will be hitting the streets very soon. I apologize for the severe lack of posts lately as I've been totally tied up with the film and have not had time to put work into the blog but I assure you that will be changing soon.

Our good buddy Swoo was apparently waiting for his girlfriend the other day and decided to just huck a 9 set to pass the time. Swoo is one of the local Toronto killers that rips with us all the time but this was a big step for him for sure. I don't think I'd even seen him jump anything bigger than a 3 set before this. Last night my girlfriend came home and told me that she had been checking out a photo blog by photographer, Kyle Scully while passing the time at work. As she was scrolling through the pages she stumbled on a photo of our man Ten Ten Temmyo riding in Vancouver. Ten Ten has been out of the game for a while now due to school and other obligations in life. Ten Ten is by far one of my favorite riders and we hope he gets back on a bike a little more frequently in the near future.

This is absolutely insane to me. I grew up watching Edwin Delarosa in bmx video's and now he's on the cover of Loop Magazine with my boy Wonka. Wonka has been absolutely killing it everywhere for the past year or so and if I'm not mistaken this is his first cover shot on a magazine. Amazing work man, you deserve it. Things have been a little slow here on the Skitch blog but trust me it's been crazy behind the scenes here at Skitch. We're currently finishing up The Revival for the DVD release (date is still pending, you'll know when we know). Also getting a new line of tee's together and stickers finally. I know you all want stickers so we're just sorting that out right now.

Now that, that news is out of the way, on to the team. Torey is back home in Georgia for Christmas but took some time to catch up with Travis Baker at 700CMX. Travis is an awesome rider who we've been watching for a while now and he recently started up a new site called 700CMX fresh with a couple interviews. Head over and check out what Torey had to say.

There is also an interview up with Kareem from Death Pedal. Make sure you take a look at that because Kareem is an awesome dude who's been putting in a lot of work for fixed gear freestyle so support that for sure.

Hawaiian Premiere Of The Revival

The Hawaiian premiere of The Revival took place on Tuesday last week and it looks like everyone had a good time. While we're trying to make it through subzero temperatures up here in Canada, it looks like it was wonderful evening for an outdoor screening of The Revival along with London to Paris. The Revival Buffalo

This past Saturday was the premiere of The Revival in Buffalo, New York. Tom Mosher, Toby Spunt and I (Tom Briggs) made our way south of the boarder to meet up with some locals. Zach, Bill, Ben and everyone else were awesome hosts and put together a great evening at Positive Approach.

The Buffalo locals are also putting together a new fixed gear film themselves called Velorue which is looking real good so far so definitely look for more stuff coming from them in the near future.

Bill put together the great video above of the weekend and as you can see we had an awesome warehouse ramp set up to work with. We ended up spending most of our time riding there because of the weather outside. Even with the all the snow we still had a great turn out for the premiere. Again a huge thank you to everyone we met and rode with, you guys were awesome.

South Africa

Of all the premieres around the world for The Revival, you would think the one I would be most excited about would be something like New York or London or San Fransisco but honestly I have to say the one that stood out the most was probably Cape Town, South Africa. I remember when I received the e-mail from Ian at Fixed Gear Cape Town saying that he wanted to throw a premiere, I was beyond excited. When you make a project like this you don't really know the scale of it until it is out there for the public and knowing that there were people even aware of it as far away as South Africa had me absolutely blown away. Well on December 4th, 2009 at the Bijou Theater, in Cape Town, The Revival made it's first appearance on the big screen in Africa.

I can't thank Ian enough for all his help in making this happen. Please head over to his site Fixed Gear Cape Town and give it some love because these guys are doing it for all the right reasons. Thank you to everyone who showed up to the screening, I hope you all enjoyed the film as much as we enjoyed making it.Photos shot by Dave.

I put this edit together from the weekend in NYC. There's some serious tricks that went down over the two days but in my opinion history was made by Wonka riding the China Banks sign for the first time. I remember watching Ralph Sinisi do that years ago in the first Animal video and was stoked. It was really cool to be there for a fixed gear first of that magnitude.

It was awesome meeting people from all over who came to see the film and ride with us. A huge thank you to the Philly crew for braving the weather to literally chill with us under the BQE. The weather was cold but the people were great so thank you to everyone who showed up in New York City, you guys are all awesome.

Revival Premiere San Diego, All Ages

Matt Lingo snapped a bunch of photos at the all ages San Diego premiere of The Revival, presented by Leader Bikes. I'm so stoked that Massan got to see the film as he is by far one of my favorite riders and for what it's worth his part in Mash is probably one of the greatest fixed gear riding parts in history. Tyler Johnson was also in town to present the film. It looks like it was an awesome night.

One of my best friends John Hargraft came along to NYC for the weekend as we premiered The Revival. John is the guy behind a lot of the promo photography for The Revival and while we were in town he snapped this amazing photo of Tom Lemarche. John Prolly posted an awesome write up of The Revival premiere that went down on Saturday. He really captured that day for what it was. All ages venue problems, audio issues and the worst weather ever (and hell I'm from Canada so you know it had to be bad) could not stop that night from being a blast. While in New York the other day I met a bunch of the Philly locals including Jesse Johnston who captured some amazing photos at the Peel Session on Saturday night. So black friday is kind of an American thing and we don't go as crazy up here north of the boarder but I'd imagine this is how I would spend black friday if I lived in the states. Some how cruising around the streets with friends seems a lot more fun than stampeding over Wal-Mart employees to get a new flat screen, but that's just me.
